Project 1: Get Out the Vote!

In Project 1, you will research voting issues. Start your research with The League of Women Voters which is an organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.

Project 2: Harlem Renaissance, Black authors: Zora Neale Hurston, Kwame Alexander

 

In Project 2, you will research the Harlem Renaissance, and Black authors: Zora Neale Hurston and Kwame Alexander. The Harlem Renaissance refers to the early 20th century cultural mecca of the Harlem area of New York City. Hurston wrote the classic American novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God. Alexander is an award-winning children's book author.

 

Harlem Renaissance (ca. 1920s - 1930s) The Harlem Renaissance refers to the early 20th century cultural mecca of the Harlem area of New York City. The Harlem Renaissance was an inspiration for the worldwide  Négritude movement which grew out of Pan-Africanist thought.

Zora Neale Hurston (1891 - 1960) was an American writer best known for the novel Their Eyes Were Watching God. Hurston was a leading figure in the Harlem Renaissance.

Kwame Alexander  (born 1968) is an American poet, educator and award-winning children's author of The Undefeated, Caldecott Medal, and The Crossover, Newbery Medal and Coretta Scott King Award.
