Getting Started

Where to search?

Where you should search depends on the type of information you need.

  • Background information includes dictionaries and encyclopedias. Search these resources when you want the basics: definitions, descriptions of what something is, etc.
  • Articles are good for in-depth information and research. When supporting an argument, academic articles are best.
  • Statistics are helpful for supporting a viewpoint. Use these to show how often something happens or how people feel about a topic.

  • Books contain both basic and in-depth information. They may not contain the most up-to-date information.
