The number of different types of reviews is constantly growing. One good article on the subject is A typology of reviews: an analysis of 14 review types and associated methodologies by Grant & Booth et al. However, even this article is already outdated and missing some reviews such as Critical Appraisal Topics (CAT).
The purpose of this libguide is to detail and explain the general purpose and the research methodology involved for several of the more commonly undertaken reviews: Literature Review, Mixed Methods Review, Scoping Review, Systematic Analysis, & Meta-Analysis.
Also included in this libguide are sections explaining some of the different components/concepts of higher level reviews such as: gray literature, PRISMA guidelines, the exhaustive search, recording the search, official search strategy, and commonly used critical appraisal tools.
