Where can I find primary & secondary sources?

Primary Sources

When searching for primary sources in databases, use your topic search term AND the type of primary source. A few sample searches:

  • Virginia Woolf AND diary
  • Gulf War syndrome AND study

Primary sources are materials created at the time of an event like diaries, journals, notebooks, speeches, and studies.

Secondary Sources

When searching for secondary sources in databases, use your topic search term AND the type of secondary source. A few sample searches:

  • Harriet Tubman AND biography
  • 19th amendment AND commentary 

Secondary sources interpret and analyze primary sources. Examples of secondary sources are biographies, books, criticism, essays, and reviews.
